No "Baloney" Lefty Specialist Myer(s) Is Key

Okay, you can sing my version of the old Oscar Meyer jingle.....

"Our lefty specialist has a first name it's M-I-K-E.....

Our lefty specialist has a second name it's M-Y-E-R-S......."

I know, I'm pushing it a bit, but you have to excuse me because I'm so excited with the performance of Mike Myers so far this year. When the Boston Red Sox decided not to offer Myers a contract, I couldn't believe it and then prayed Brian Cashman would pounce on him. Brian did just that.

On a roster of superstars, one of the most important pieces may be Myers. Since the departure of "Mike Stanton I", the Yankees couldn't find a quality lefty to fill the void. In Myers, they now have their man.

In 10 games this year, Mike hasn't given up a run. He's allowed only 3 hits, 1-walk, while striking out 6 hitters in 6 1/3rd innings of work. While the numbers are very good, we still haven't seen the real value in Myers. Because of having so many days off, Myers hasn't been able to do what he does best and that is, pitch every day.

Starting next Monday, the season starts to flow and we will see Myers come in more often to get a good lefty hitter out. This guy has a rubber arm and loves to get the call every night. You soon will see what a valuable pickup Mike was.

All winter long (because I live in New England) I heard about how much "better" Boston's pitching staff was than the Yankees. Once the Sox got off to a hot start, many of their fans were going "ga-ga" over their rotation. Well, how fast things change. At the moment, the Yankees staff ERA is 3.50 while Boston weighs in at 4.58.

I'll be back Monday, I'm off to the Stadium for the weekend. See you there!
